Think You Know Morse Code? Let's Find Out.
Reading a chart is easy. Recognizing morse code by sound — or reading a string of dots and dashes without a cheat sheet — is where real knowledge shows. This quiz throws 48 questions across three difficulty rounds at you: some play actual morse audio you must identify by ear, some show you raw code to decode, and others test the trivia every morse fan should know. No sign-up, instant feedback after every answer.
Three Difficulty Rounds
- Easy (12 questions) — letters by ear and by sight. Learn the sounds: E, T, S, O, A and friends.
- Medium (14 questions) — trickier letters, numbers, and the timing rules (dot = 1 unit, dash = 3, letter gap = 3, word gap = 7).
- Hard (16 questions) — punctuation, prosigns like <AR> and <SK>, Q-codes, and radio history.
Feeling brave? Flip on timed mode for 12–20 seconds per question (difficulty-dependent) — correct fast answers earn time bonuses.
How Scoring Works
Every question is multiple choice with 4 options. Each correct answer earns 100 points, plus 10 points per second remaining in timed mode, plus a 50-point streak bonus once you're on a roll of 3 or more. After every answer you get instant feedback with a short explanation. Your final rank is based on your percentage:
- 80%+: Morse Master — you could hold your own on a real radio net.
- 60–79%: Solid Operator — strong fundamentals, just polish the edges.
- 40–59%: Apprentice — the basics are landing; time for more practice.
- Below 40%: Curious Beginner — welcome aboard. Everyone starts here.
Your score screen gives you a shareable result line you can paste into chat, socials, or your ham radio bio — plus a 🎓 Get your certificate button that carries your score and tier straight to your free morse code certificate.
Scored Below 60%? Train Up Before You Retake.
The fastest way to turn a weak score into a Morse Master badge is ear training — hearing characters at full speed instead of counting dots and dashes. Our Koch-method trainer starts you with just two characters and builds from there, the Morse code generator builds custom practice strings, and the audio decoder checks whether you can actually hear what you just read. Run the quiz again after a practice session and watch the score jump.
What This Quiz Covers
The 48 questions span the skills that matter: letter recognition by sound, code recognition by sight (including punctuation, prosigns, and the @ symbol), encoding (what's the morse for this character?), timing math (units, gaps, WPM conventions), and core knowledge (what SOS really means, the Koch and Farnsworth methods, and who created the code). If you can clear the hard round, you genuinely understand morse — not just the chart, but the history and the signal conventions behind it.
Want a study session first? Grab the printable chart, then meet the sample letters on pages like A in morse code — and read the full SOS in morse code story before the trivia round.
